Punk rock started in the seventies as a raucous, irregular take-over against common current of popular culture music. Bands alike Green Day, the Offspring, and Rancid helped bring punk music back in the mid-1990's. This time the blend of fast, simple rock with catchy pop melodies stayed on radio and MTV. Today, soi-disant punk pop is a key piece of puzzle in the sphere of mainstream pop music. These 10 record albums are the best starting points to get closer to punk pop.
1. blink-182 - Enema of the State
In blink-182's unbounded struggle to offend any grown ups in the locality, that record album shed light upon a lady dressed as an enema au pair girl on the cover. The music on the record is adolescent and catchy with the monumental hit song “All the Small Things.”
2. The Donnas - Spend the Night
Girls can play punk, as well, and this song is a profuse proof of the fact. The group styled themselves after the rock band Ramones with each singer going by the name Donna. Download Pressure to listen to it.
3. Good Charlotte - Young and the Hopeless
A band from Waldorf, Maryland Good Charlotte blasted into the top ten of the popular music album chart. It is filled with stories of college and problem parents. The smashing hit track is “The Anthem.”
4. Green Day - American Idiot
Later retreating from their mid-90's peak of popularity, Green Day faded from live performances to mix punk rock's 1st opera. Despite the fact that the popular punk band was anxious about their fan's reaction to Letterbomb, it turned out to be a UK rock classic topping the album chart and winning an award for Best Punk Album of 2004.
5. The Lemonheads - Ceiling Fan in My Spoon
The Lemonheads' lead singer Evan Griffith Dando is the only punk musician to be known as a real teenager idol. Along the way the rock band wrote down some outstanding music, too, featuring “Ceiling Fan in My Spoon”, “Download Pressure” and “Rest Assured” on this album.
6. The Offspring - Smash
The Offspring a rock band were one of the original punk renaissance bands from the mid-90's. Many times their songs bordered on Blues rock and heavy metal, but their best music is true punk. “Come Out and Play” and “Genocide” are far beyond what is customary on this CD.
7. Rancid - Journey To The End Of The East Bay
Rancid sounds a lot like late 70's classic punk as the Clash. They also use the sound of pop punk in much of their albums.
8. Simple Plan - Still Not Getting Any…
This French group from Canada appeared in the spot in October with their studio album Perfect. This second record album is much better and contains the hit song “You Don't Mean Anything.”
9. Sum 41 - All Killer No Filler
The mp3 “All She's Got” helped propel this studio album into the top 100. Sum 41 inject intelligent humor into many of their hits. Download Paramore to get an impression of what we are speaking about.
10. Weezer - Surf Wax America (Blue Album)
Though they are esteemed as founders of the anti-establishment rock music genre, Weezer's records are also pure punk pop. “My Name Is Jonas” was their first hit and then a clip putting the rock band in a Happy Days episode helped make “Buddy Holly” even more popular.
