Charles Fey developed the first automatic slot machine in 1887 and he is considered to be the inventor of it. Based in San Francisco, they were handmade and proposed to local little casinos in an agreement with owners to charge a 50% rental fee for their usage. There is a unjust thought that slot machines in the 19th century were bigger than present ones. In fact they have got nearly the same overall dimensions as slot machines today. In 1907 Charles Fey made a contract with Mills Novelty Company and they started producing a huge amount of slot machines. Mills Liberty Bell was the first modification. The first fruit image slot machine was named Operator Bell. That was designed by Mills Company 3 years later. The disadvantage of early slot machines was that they were produced of iron and it was not so easy to transport it from one place to another.
